Spring is here—time to shake out the rugs, wash the windows, and put the snow boots away! And while the flowers are bursting into bloom, it’s also a great time to turn over a new leaf and freshen up your writing career.
5 Spring Cleaning Tips To Freshen Up Your Writing Career
Tip #1. Don’t stop cleaning when you reach your keyboard. Once you’ve finished clearing away fallen branches out in the yard and dusting the bookshelves inside your home, consider sweeping the digital clutter out of your computer. While we don’t recommend deleting drafts of your writing projects (old drafts can still be helpful and inspiring!), we do recommend that you organize your computer’s virtual files.
Spring is the time of plans and projects. ―Leo Tolstoy
Tip #2. Prepare for future success by taking action right now. Spring is a season for planting. Each creative writing submission that you make right now is a seed: Many won’t take root, but those that do will be deliciously satisfying. When you’re enjoying the sweet taste of success in the months ahead, you’ll thank yourself for the seeds you’re planting now.

Of course, you want your submissions sent out in tip-top shape to the BEST literary agents and literary magazines. But wouldn’t you rather be sitting in your garden and writing on your laptop…instead of stuck inside at your desk doing paperwork or research?

Tip #4. Find a quote that inspires you to write. The grass is changing from yellow to green, the trees are changing from bare to blooming, and you can change your mind-set. Find an inspirational quote about writing, and place it somewhere you’ll see it often. You can find great motivational quotes for writers by visiting the Writer’s Relief Pinterest boards.

Tip #5. Begin this new season with new ideas. You regularly spend time mulling over your works in progress. But how much time do you dedicate to ideas for new projects? Build free-writing into your routine, and spend some time imagining wild ideas for new stories, poems, and books. You may be surprised by how your ideas begin to grow and thrive!
