Side Hustles For Writers (That Don’t Involve Writing) | Writer’s Relief

Creative writing may be your passion, but it doesn’t really pay the bills. And while there are writing jobs available, you don’t want nonstop writing to result in burnout. Put the pen down, step away from the keyboard, and go out into the world to try new things and find ideas for your writing! If you’re thinking about taking on a side job that won’t swallow up all your writing time, check out this great list of side hustles for writers, compiled by the research experts at Writer’s Relief.

Side Hustles for Writers to Make Extra Income (Without Writing)

Proofreader: Put your grammar skills to good use! Your experience proofreading your own work can bring in some cash. And since it’s not your own work, you won’t be distracted by editing or rewriting.

Digital Marketer: This side hustle is in high demand for businesses! Send out email blasts, manage social media, and engage the virtual world to help businesses advertise and expand their clientele.

Fitness Instructor: Do you enjoy Zumba, yoga, or kickboxing? You might be able to work as a part-time fitness class instructor. Check your local gym or town recreation department for certifications and teaching opportunities.

Virtual Assistant or Bookkeeping: Many companies are looking for people to perform data entry! These jobs require attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Quickbooks, and other software, and are often remote work-from-home positions.

Pet Sitting: From walking to feeding, the tasks involved in pet sitting are usually not time-consuming. And after getting a bit of fresh air (and some inspiration!) with your furry friends, you’ll have lots of time to write while the pets are snoozing!

Book Store Employee: This may be a writer’s dream job! A good writer is also a smart reader, and you’ll also have plenty of opportunities to see what’s selling and popular with buyers. And two words: employee discount!

Gig Economy Opportunities: Providing on-demand work or services allows you to work when you want and still schedule time for your writing. Here’s a handy list of gigs and the companies that provide these services!

Food delivery:

Ride sharing:

Grocery shopping:

Some great ideas. I also submit some photos, hoping for increased visibility, networking, and some income.
The opposite of baby sitting can be “senior sitting” or just BEING a companion.
