7 Novels About Women Over 60 Who Defy Expectations | Writer’s Relief

Celebrate Women’s History Month with novels about women who are over 60 and old enough to have their own unique histories! In this article Writer’s Relief found on ElectricLiterature.com, author Andrea Carlisle explores novels from around the world that feature older women protagonists in stories of substance. From Drive Your Plow over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk (translated by Antonia Lloyd-Jones) to Two Old Women: An Alaska Legend of Betrayal, Courage and Survival by Velma Wallis, these novels about women over 60 defy the “old lady trope” expectations of characters limited to being feisty, cranky, or amusing.

I find it interesting that there are no comments yet. It’s important for women to understand life doesn’t end, until it’s over. I’d enjoy reading books with strong women protagonists no matter what their age.

Ageism is alive and well. Women’s History Month is a great time to seek out and read stories about women’s lives and accomplishments. Thanks for the link to novels that take older women seriously.
