Writing Prompt Generator: Old-School Style! | Writer’s Relief

Writing prompts are a great way to get your creative muse musing about your next project. If you need help beginning your short story, poem, or novel, a writing prompt can give you a starting point. But why settle for prewritten writing prompts when you can create your own unique writing prompt? Instead of a high-tech writing prompt generator, we decided to create one that’s manually operated old-school style. Put on your hard hat and goggles, fire up the steam engine, and try the Writer’s Relief writing prompt generator!

Retro Writing Prompt Generator

This handy-dandy writing prompt generator is easy and fun to use! Simply choose the sections of the sentences that match your answers: your first initial; the color of your shirt; the color of your socks; and the last thing you used your smartphone for. Combine your answers to make your sentence and your newfangled writing prompt!

Your first initial The color of your shirt The color of your socks The last thing you used your smartphone for

Q-T: My pet… Brown/Khaki: tried to… Brown/Khaki: fill(ed) the jar with cash; Stream Movies/TV: it was just too cute.
U-Z: Grandma Annie… Multicolored/Other: had a dream to… Multicolored/Other/None: end(ed) up in the emergency room; Stream Music: some things are more important than pride.

Writing prompts are a great way to bust through writer’s block and improve your skills! Use the writing prompt you created to play with ideas and see where it takes you. Even if it doesn’t evolve into a finished work, your creativity will be humming and you might come up with a better idea!
