6 Book Settings We’d Love To Visit | Writer’s Relief

It’s the time of year when many people are headed off on vacations. Some will head for the beach, others to the mountains, and still others will explore new cities. But as diehard bookworms and bibliophiles, everyone here at Writer’s Relief has a literary location they’d love to visit—even if it only exists on the pages of a favorite book! Here are six book settings that we all wish were real places where we could spend our vacations:

Hogwarts – Harry Potter series (J.K. Rowling)

What muggle wouldn’t want to visit this school? Once you’re sorted into your house, you can grab your broomstick and join a rollicking game of quidditch. Then it’s off into town for a few butter beers!

West Egg – The Great Gatsby (F. Scott Fitzgerald)

Whether you’re new money, old money, or even not-so-much money, a roaring twenties party is the epitome of extravagance—especially if it’s hosted by Gatsby! Champagne, anyone?

Le Cirque des Rêves – The Night Circus (Erin Morgenstern)

Unlike your usual circus, this one appears and disappears without notice. There are plenty of sights to see, like gardens made entirely of glass, acrobats without nets, and even vertical cloud mazes!

Middle Earth – The Hobbit (J. R. R. Tolkien)

Wander the bucolic paths, then step through the round door into any hobbit hole. You may be just in time for breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, lunch, or afternoon tea!

Land of Oz – The Wizard of Oz (L. Frank Baum)

Where should you start? You could spend the day with the diminutive denizens of Munchkin Land, or be pampered in the spas of Emerald City. Just keep an eye out for falling houses!

Earthsea – The Farthest Shore (Ursula K. Le Guin)

If you love the water and adventure, you’ll love visiting Earthsea, a world of islands surrounded by uncharted oceans. With the different cultures, magic, and dragons found on these archipelagos, there’s sure to be something for everyone to discover.

  1. I’d love to spend a week-end there, but only if someone would loan me their silver (not ruby)slippers to get home with.
