Congratulations to South African playwright and novelist Damon Galgut, winner of the 2021 Booker Prize for Fiction with The Promise! Writer’s Relief learned at thebookerprize.com that this is Galgut’s third time being shortlisted for the award. Set in South Africa during the country’s transition out of apartheid, The Promise explores the relationships between members of a family through the lens of four funerals.
