What’s that you have there? Yes, those papers you have tucked into your notebook or sitting in a folder on your computer. Is that a completed, polished short story, personal essay, group of poems, or book manuscript? At Writer’s Relief, the obvious next question is: Why aren’t you submitting your work and trying to get published? For some writers, it’s hard to avoid procrastinating. And you probably have some very good reasons why you’re not making writing submissions. Like these…
Totally Plausible Reasons Why You’re Not Making Writing Submissions
The Dust Bunnies Have Attacked
How can you possibly spend time researching to find the right markets for your writing when there’s so much cleaning to be done! The floor under the bed is a dust bunny haven, and do some of those bunnies have fangs? Meanwhile, look! The windows need a good scrub. And when was this garbage can last emptied? There’s probably loose change under the couch cushions that you’ll need to retrieve. And did you forget to color code all the cables behind the TV? After doing all that, maybe you’ll get around to making writing submissions.
A Backlog Of Shows On Your “To-Be-Watched” List
Wouldn’t you know it? There are so many must-see shows you’ve been meaning to watch—might as well start checking them off your list! It’s finally time to binge through all seventy hours of Game of Thrones. Or perhaps you’d rather watch and compare all the different Sherlock Holmes adaptations to determine which one is your favorite! Hmm… It seems like you’ve been logged out of Netflix—what’s that password again? Once you’re caught up on your viewing, you’ll surely have plenty of time to research the best places to send your work.
You’re Out Of Coffee!!!
Honestly, how can you function without writer fuel? Strange, you just stocked up on coffee K-cups the other day. Don’t panic! Off to the local coffee shop for refueling. You’ll want to be energized and perky in order to start submitting your writing! Of course, the smooth jazz background music and sound of people chatting at other tables might make it hard to focus on finding the right markets—and eliminating the wrong markets—so maybe just take along a book to read for now.
The Dog Ate It
Well, not exactly. But all those cute doggo videos in your social media feed are hard to resist! You are honest-to-goodness going to start sending out submissions—right after watching those dogs tilt their heads in that adorable way. And look at the poodle wearing a bow tie! Did you see the video where the tiny Chihuahua is trying to carry a giant stick? How long have you been wandering around the Internet…five hours? Oh no, the dogs ate up all your time for making submissions…maybe try again tomorrow.
