Meet our featured client, Mike Cohen! After taking the advice of a published writer, Mike became one himself: He’s been published in Adelaide Literary Magazine, American Writers Review, FRiGG, The North Dakota Quarterly, and more. And Mike’s book of short stories, The Three of Us, was released in 2018 by Adelaide Books.
Read on and watch the video to learn how Writer’s Relief helped Mike get fourteen stories and a book published!
In Mike’s Own Words
My name is Mike Cohen. I have practiced law for about fifty years, but secretly, since I was a kid, I’ve dreamt of being a writer.
In 1991 I had a breakthrough and said to myself that it was now or never. I joined workshops, took classes, did extensions programs—you name it—all to build and learn my “craft.” While practicing law, I wrote short story after short story—and then, eventually, a novel. But I had no readers.
That’s where Writer’s Relief came into the picture. One of my close friends since college (and herself a published author), Cindy Muscatel, recommended that I contact Writer’s Relief. She mentioned that they could help me get published. And get readers.
I let Writer’s Relief take a look at one of my stories, and they accepted it and took me on as a client. I went through an intense and cathartic questionnaire to assist the staff in submitting the story for publication. I received two rejections, and then…
ACCEPTANCE! On June 2, 2017, Streetlight Magazine said they would publish my story. I wept, laughed, and lost my breath. I printed out the congratulatory email from Writer’s Relief and kissed it. I poured and quaffed a drink.
I was on my way.
Since then my Writer’s Relief team has boosted my ego and answered my questions with soothing words—all while targeting strategic submission candidates.
In less than two years of working with Writer’s Relief, I have ten published short stories, three anthology inclusions, one novel excerpt, and one book contract for a short story collection that included three previously unpublished stories bundled with eight published ones. And now, in 2019, with Writer’s Relief’s help, I have four new publication events to look forward to.
Today, thanks to Writers Relief, I am a published writer with fourteen published stories and one published book—all good fortune stemming from my friend Cindy telling me to give Writer’s Relief a call. So now, let me be your friend and offer you the same good advice:
