WAS, IT LITERALLY WAS when the ambulance came to take me to the hospital because of brain hemorrhage.
“The night was humid”. Classic.

No bull! Shocked out of my socks. When I first saw the question, I immediately thought, “It was a dark and stormy night”. Coincidence or fate? What do you think? Who is trying to break through to tell me something?
“All this happened, more or less”
To have known both halves of my life first, I would have lived the second half first only to change the sad moments of the first to make my life even better.

A morning shining day, but some shy clouds could be seen there hidden behind what seemed as a blue layer; which made all of us. My cousins and me were feeling happYy discovering that mysterious town. We had just arrived in the town for a visit of adventure to be sure about what we had heard about the strange historical place. ….

I could never have known what lay ahead in the world outside the small town where I grew up.

But now I’m in this filthy ditch with choking stench and throat parching heat, which leave me second guessing my decision to take this mission. Excruciating thirst and this damn festering knife wound have left me nearly useless to my comrade who is fourteen hours late.
Hell, I don’t even know if I can speak, I’ve had to lie so still breathing hot, dust-filled air. My only cover for half a day has been this God forsaken, insect laden, gray sand, and scraggly dry shrubs I fashioned to camouflage myself.
The story of my life starts with “It was a dark and Stormy night”.
Really? “It was a dark and stormy night” is credited solely to Madeleine L’Engle with no credit at all to Edward Bulwer-Lytton? This is not right.

And before Bulwer-Lytton, Washington Irving used the phrase in his A HISTORY OF NEW YORK, but we think most folks are more familiar with L’Engle’s use of it in A WRINKLE IN TIME.
