In Judith’s Own Words

Back in 1995, my first writing coach urged me to try Writer’s Relief. I signed on, and to my delight and surprise, my poems and stories soon began to go out into the reading world. I’ve been a client of Writer’s Relief ever since, even after taking a short break while working on my book and earning my MFA. I now have many publications to my credit, and that wouldn’t have happened without Writer’s Relief. No way.

For one thing, for the first ten years of my time with Writer’s Relief, I was a full-time psychotherapist with three kids and a few dogs. I had barely any time to write and no time to make sure I got published. Also, I’m not particularly disciplined, and the deadlines set by Writer’s Relief are very motivating. I now have a respectable writing vita—a long list of publications with a few awards sprinkled in.

More About Judith

Judith Ford worked as a psychotherapist in private practice for forty-one years before retiring and moving with her husband and two dogs to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her fiction, essays, and poetry have also appeared in The Paragon Journal, The Penmen Review, Pennsylvania English, Quarter After Eight, Rubbertop Review, Southern Humanities Review, Voices de la Luna, Waxing & Waning, Willow Review, Young Ravens Literary Review, and many other journals. She won the 2005 Willow Review Prose Award and was named “most highly commended” in the 2008 Margaret Reid Poetry Contest. Judith has taught creative writing to sixth graders in a private school, adults at the University of Wisconsin Extension, and teenagers staying in a runaway shelter. She earned her MFA in writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts in 2016 at the age of sixty-eight. Judith currently enjoys hiking in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, attending Zen retreats, and, of course, writing. Her memoir, Fever of Unknown Origin, has recently been accepted for publication.
