Click on the video above to hear about Christopher’s experience with Writer’s Relief!

We’re very excited to present our Featured Client, Christopher Kuhl! Christopher Kuhl has mastered the economy of language. Each of his poems is short, concise, and razor-sharp. In perfectly controlled stanzas, usually of three to four lines, he effortlessly conveys a wide spectrum of emotions and evokes crystal-clear images, proving his ability to achieve unforgettable results with a minimum of words. Christopher’s work has appeared in many literary magazines, including Alabama Literary Review, Schuylkill Valley Journal of the Arts, and Prairie Schooner, and he is definitely a poet you’ll want to follow. In Christopher Kuhl’s Own Words

I would like to thank the Writer’s Relief staff, all of whom I know only by email and the occasional phone call. Without them, I would have to sacrifice precious writing time to the tedious, exhausting process of submission. Writer’s Relief does the heavy lifting, leaving me free to write and experiment (lots of that lately); the two-month submission deadlines keeps me comfortably at the grindstone. It’s also nice to know that there is someone out there who doesn’t know me but cares enough about my poetry to “get it out there.” I’d be a drained, blithering idiot without their services, their kindnesses, and their genuine belief in the quality of my work. Thanks, everybody, thank you. Shalom.

About Christopher Kuhl

Christopher Kuhl was born in very northern New York to an Estonian mother who, along with her own mother, survived the Holocaust (and gave him a deep, abiding love of the Jewish faith, prompting him to learn Hebrew), and a father of Italian-German heritage. Christopher holds five degrees: philosophy, musicology, two in music composition, and a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary arts. Though he does not have an MFA, nor has he had an English course since high school, his wide-ranging reading and constant writing has led to success as a poet. He has been a Poet-in-Residence several times at the Mary Anderson Center for the Arts; presents frequent readings of his poetry; has self-published two books (Blood and Bone, River and Stone: Memoirs of Lewis County and Sightings: Visions of the Human Spirit); has won or placed in a number of competitions; and has taught workshops to aspiring writers of various ages, backgrounds, and life experiences. “I believe one’s life is a sacred journey, and these interactions have been as helpful to me as I hope they have been to the participants. I had been published in some journals over the many years I’ve been writing, but have never had as prolific a success of publication as I have had after taking up with Writer’s Relief.”

Christopher Kuhl has had poems published in Alabama Literary Review, The Anglican Digest, Big Muddy: A Journal of the Mississippi Valley, Ensemble Jourine, Glass: A Journal of Poetry, Kane County Chronicle, Mississippi Literary Review, Piedmont Literary Review, Prairie Schooner, Red Ochre Press, Schuylkill Valley Journal of the Arts, Tulane Review, and Zzbaggins Poetry Victims.
