Resources

From the very first “Welcome to Writer’s Relief,” our clients experience the partnership for which we are known. The Writer’s Relief family provides each client with a personal submission strategy that is fine-tuned as the submission train builds up steam. Are you ready to catch the publication train? We’re waiting at the station for you!

It is important for serious writers to keep their work circulating in the marketplace. This strategy garners a larger number of publication credits for our authors. Writer’s Relief provides the following in-house resources in order to achieve our clients’ publication goals.

  • Up-to-date Market Research: We have fine-tuned our database of available journals and agents who are ready to read and accept our clients’ work. Why send work to journals that have stopped reading for the season or send work that exceeds the maximum word count? Do you know the editor’s name or the current theme? Our database is updated daily and is far more accurate than outdated information appearing in materials printed months or years ago.
  • Query Letters/Cover Letters: We prepare individually-targeted, professionally-prepared cover letters with just the right personal touch designed to capture an editor’s attention and make her/him want to read your work. It is imperative to do it correctly the first time.
  • Proofreading:Every manuscript we proofread, bar none, benefits from the review of a second pair of eyes. We provide the expertise to answer the following questions:
    • Should I choose lie or lay, who or whom, affect or effect, farther or further?
    • How do I correctly type an ellipsis?
    • Does “recommend” have 2 m’s? (It does!)
    • What is an em-dash, and why can’t I find it on my computer?
(We know and will tell you!)
    • Does punctuation go inside or outside quotation marks?
    • When are numbers spelled out?
    • When do I use a semicolon instead of a comma?
    • How do I get my page numbers to advance in my story?
    • Why is it better to address an editor with first and last name rather than
      using a title of courtesy?
    • What does that proofreading squiggle mean?
  • Tracking/Targeting: We maintain a database of your personal submission history that is available to you whenever you wish to access this information. With the click of a mouse you will see a report of journals that have accepted your work and those still considering your work. Read comments from editors who have personally responded to a particular piece you’ve submitted. See a listing of all your work, when it was sent, where it was sent, and who asked to see more work. Access this information online. This service is available only to clients in active status.

We are happy to post this valuable list of web resources for writers. We believe that a well-educated, informed writer is a better writer, and there are many quality resources available on the web, including Writer’s Relief. We strongly encourage writers to take an active role in the submission of their work, including researching resources for writers.

Not all of these links may be helpful to you, and as we are not responsible for the content or accuracy of these websites, we do caution you to exercise care in evaluating the suitability and accuracy of information contained in these sites.
