1. Don’t let agents, editors, or other writers suck the creative life out of you. 
2. Too many late nights spent writing and rewriting will make you feel like a zombie. Get some rest! 
3. If something doesn’t seem right about a literary contract—get out now! 
4. Of course your mother likes your writing. But for an unbiased opinion, consider joining a writing critique group.
5. It’s important to honor your personal deadlines. Really, really important. 
6. If you don’t carefully proofread your work, editors and agents will have a strong reaction.
7. When you start seeing double, it’s time to take a break. 
8. Always submit your work to a variety of markets, not the same ones over and over. 
9. Worried that agents and editors will laugh at your submissions because you don’t have any publishing credits? Don’t be—every author was once a new writer. 
10. Using big, fancy words won’t make you sound smarter or your writing seem better (but it might accidentally wake the dead).
11. Ignore grammar or genre rules at your own risk.
12. Don’t get sucked into watching TV: Read a book.
13. Always try to see things differently.
14. The truth may be stranger than fiction. But fiction can be more fun to write!
15. Don’t let rejection letters make you crazy.
16. If you need help researching the best markets, making submissions, and getting results—have the right team (aka submission strategists) working for you.
17. Sometimes your writing inspiration will come from deep inside.
18. But there will be times you’ll just be bursting with writing ideas!
