If you’re a writer or bookworm, any party becomes a better party if it’s literary themed! For your next Super Bowl party, birthday party, or even summer pool party, these book-themed names for your food and drinks are sure to bring some nerdy literary fun to the table. The resident punsters at Writer’s Relief present twenty-four delicious puns for your snacking and drinking pleasure.

Pun-tastic Party Tip: Be sure to display a notecard featuring your literary pun next to each dish!

Party Food And Drink Ideas That Are Literally Funny!

The Crepe Gatsby: Crepes may sound fancy, but they’re actually very easy to make and can be filled with many different treats, both sweet and savory. A truly versatile option!

The Kit Kat in the Hat, Oliver Twix, and Skittle Women: Okay, these are basically just puns on candy names, but what could be easier—or tastier? Just open a bag, pour the candy into a bowl, put the snack name on a sign, and watch as your guests smile!

A Thousand Splendid Sun Chips: Again, super simple. Sun Chips come in several tasty flavors, so offer more than one choice (don’t worry, you don’t have to offer a thousand). Partygoers will enjoy a good giggle as they snack!

The Lord of the Onion Rings: Onion rings are a classic snack, so this one is sure to be a hit—whether or not your guests are Middle Earth nerds.

Game of Scones: While scones may present a surprising twist on typical finger food offerings, we’re certain they won’t be unwelcome! (Or at least, they’ll be more welcome than Joffrey was on the Iron Throne.)

The Joy Luck Club Sandwiches: Just throw together some club sandwiches, cut them into appetizer-sized bites, and you’re good to go!

What We Taco ’Bout When We Taco ’Bout Love: Who doesn’t love tacos at a party? Just put out a spread of taco shells and toppings and let everyone build their own.

Dumpling Wicked This Way Comes: Wicked-good dumplings are sure to be a party favorite! From pierogis to pot stickers, there are so many different ways to serve dumplings—and even more yummy fillings to offer. Don’t forget the knishes!

A Good Jam Is Hard to Find: This snack doesn’t have to be as strange as the famous short story it’s named after. Just offer a decent array of good jams and some bread or crackers.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Cheez-Its: No basilisk fighting needed for these crunchy snacks, unless someone is blocking the way to the table! Then you’ll have to use a summoning spell—Accio, cheesy goodness!

A Confederacy of Doughnuts: If you’re going to create a league, you can’t do much better than a league of donuts. Be sure to represent the many different doughnut factions, including glazed, with sprinkles, jelly-filled, and various icings.

James and the Giant Peach Cobbler: Apple pie and pumpkin pie may be the go-to flavors, but if you’re ready to go the extra mile, roll in with a big, delicious peach cobbler (just don’t get stuck inside of it!).

The Glass Casserole: A menagerie may work at a party featuring a petting zoo, but a casserole will be welcome at every party—whether or not there are ponies. The best part about this pun? You can make any casserole dish and it still works!

A Million Little Pizzas: Bagel Bites, homemade English muffin pizzas, pizza rolls—you can even order a full-size pizza and cut it into small, bite-size pieces. Pizza is the go-to party food, and serving it mini-sized makes it even easier to eat!

A Tale of Two Zitis: Baked ziti, chicken Alfredo ziti, eggplant ziti parmesan, broccoli and ziti casserole—so many choices! Pick two delicious pasta dishes: Need we say more?

Lord of the Wings: Wings are such a necessary staple at parties that guests willingly climb two towers to get to them. Use your own secret dipping sauce and declare one barbecue wing to rule them all!

The Unbearable Lightness of Beans: High in protein and fiber, beans are incredibly versatile! Enjoy them in salads, soups, or by the hearty crock-full.

All this noshing will make your guests thirsty! Good thing we have a few literary names you can offer with the drinks you serve:

  • Gone With the Wine
  • Tequila Mockingbird
  • The Last of the Mojitos
  • Scotch-22
  • The Adventures of Huckleberry Gin

These literary names for your food and drinks will give a special spark to your next get-together—but be warned: Guests may think you’re so clever, they’ll want you to host every party!

Question: What other literary puns can you think of to add to this snack list?
