A Writer, A Sister, And A Touch Of Published Magic: The Senderella Story | Writer’s Relief

Once upon a time there was a successful writer named Senderella. It seemed as if almost every poem or story that flowed from her pen found a home in a literary journal. Senderella had a mildly wicked stepmother and two sorta wicked stepsisters. They all were really more snarky than wicked, and spent way too much time binging true-crime documentaries.

But one sister—Acrimonia—was envious of Senderella’s publishing success. Acrimonia’s own writing was strong (her writing group and mentor loved it), but all she had to show for the few submissions she’d made to literary journals were some politely worded rejection letters. Even worse, she was having more and more trouble finding the time and energy to write because of the hours and hours (and hours!) of research involved in finding potential homes for her work. Meanwhile, Senderella made it all seem so effortless.

One day Senderella mentioned receiving yet another acceptance email, and Acrimonia couldn’t take it anymore.

“Sendy,” Acrimonia said, “it’s just not fair that journal editors like your work better than mine. Tell me what dark magic you’re using—or is it that pesky Fairy Godmother’s doing?”

Senderella laughed and said sweetly, “My dear Monia, it’s not magic at all! It’s Writer’s Relief!”

Then Senderella told her sister all about how the good folks at Writer’s Relief make sure her writing is formatted and proofread to industry standards.

“They also create cover and query letters, and constantly research literary journals and agents in order to target my work to the most suitable markets—the ones most likely to accept it for publication. Since 1994 their clients have received over 20,896 acceptances. Give it a try—you’ll find a supportive team ready to help you strengthen your submission strategy and boost your odds of getting an acceptance.”

“How can I meet these magicians?” asked Acrimonia.

“Submit your work to their Review Board and see what happens!”

Acrimonia borrowed a crystal ball and lo and behold! The Review Board was open and reading submissions from potential new clients. Acrimonia submitted her work, and the Review Board said Yes! With Writer’s Relief’s help, she started making regular, targeted submissions—and even received some acceptance letters.

Best of all, Acrimonia also had more time to write! In fact, she lived happily ever after. Oh, and as for her unfortunate name, she now writes using the pen name Harmonia.

For a limited time, the Writer’s Relief Review Board is considering writing samples from authors who hope to join our client list:

  • Books (novels, memoirs)
  • Poetry
  • Short stories and personal essays

Life may be different right now, but this remains the same: The voices of writers are important and need to be shared—and that includes yours!
