Writer’s Relief Links Roundup, June 2013

linksroundup5Our staff members are always on the lookout for the latest tips, trends, and helpful tools for writers so we can better guide our clients and readers. And while we’ve always offered a variety of free staff-written articles, our Links Roundup posts provide readers with regular updates on our favorite online resources offered by other websites. We hope you enjoy the following five resources as much as we did!

7 Biggest Lies Writers Tell Themselves About Their Books via Karen Rowe – As a writer, it’s great to have big dreams and aspirations for your work. But sometimes a reality check is in order. Karen Rowe discusses seven common misconceptions writers may have about getting their work published.

How to Find the Right Literary Agent for Your Book via Fiction Factor – One of the most frequently asked questions we receive at Writer’s Relief is, “Why should I query an agent, rather than self-publish my own book?” Going the traditional route isn’t for everyone, but having the experience, connections, and marketing prowess of a professional literary agent at your disposal is critical if you expect to be picked up by a major publishing company. Finding such an agent? Now that’s the tricky part.

7 grammar rules you really should pay attention to via The Week – While there may be grammar rules that are considered obsolete in today’s writing society, Ben Yagoda reviews seven rules that shouldn’t be thrown by the wayside. Take a closer look at your writing and see if you need to brush up on these rules.

6 simple questions: literary agent Daniel Lazar via JM Tohline – JM Tohline interviewed Daniel Lazar, a senior literary agent with Writers House. Find out more about Lazar and his advice for aspiring writers.

Online Opportunities for Young Writers via Noodle Tools – Sometimes it’s hard for young writers to find appropriate avenues to publish their work. For the young writers in your life, here is a collection of links that direct young writers (mostly teens) to legitimate places where their work can be published online.

  1. Just finished reading Dan Brown’s INFERNO. Great read, but there were two typos in book…even on that level. Since I am a retired English teacher, those typos stick out like a neon sign in a rural cemetery.

Your point is well taken. You can never edit too much.
