Artists and writers sometimes go together like peanut butter and jelly. They share inspirations and ideas about art that transcend mediums. Painters are drawn to writers (and are sometimes drawn to draw writers). Writers appreciate visual art with an eye for vivid scene and characterization.
Did you know that many famous writers had their pictures painted by their famous artist friends? See how many of these pairings you recognize. They may surprise you!

QUESTION: Who in your life inspires you to create?
I actually have a bookmark of the Gertrude Stein one!
I am generally inspired to write by my relationships with friends and lovers. A lot of my life goes into my fiction.
My father, James Laurent Desveaux, believed in every dream I had.
He also inspired my belief in magic in myriad ways, not least of which included bringing an actual magician to the house to entertain me. While my Mom kept us all ‘on the straight and narrow’ and infected me with the traditional concept of education (she taught in a one-room school!) – Dad expanded that concept – he believed there was real learning to be done outside classrooms. Dad may not have read many books, but he sure could read magic in the sky. And boy, could he weave those tall tales!
The picture I posted of him on my Father’s Day blog depicts him doing just that. . . weaving a tale. He lives on in my heart and inspires me to write every day.
What is interesting about this post if you have not heard of the Author you probably have heard of the Artist. It’s kind of a blog post for all
So glad you followed up the music/poet slideshow with writers and artists. I’m both a writer and an artist- that part inspired by my artist father. These days I am not doing the art, however, it’s forever a part of who I am and informs my writing and how I view the world.
Nothing like tortured souls bonding!
