We’re having a contest to support literary journals!
If you’ve EVER benefited from a lit mag (maybe you were published in one, or maybe you read a piece that inspired you), then we want you to take our challenge:
Subscribe to TWO literary journals today, then post the names of those two magazines in our comments section. It doesn’t matter which journals you choose; just be a subscriber to the ones you like best. See more details below.
We will pick one random winner to receive a voucher for a one-year subscription to two other lit mags of your choice. How cool is that?
PLUS many more freebies, bonuses, and gift subscriptions are being offered by participating literary journals! See below.
Win Literary Journals!
1. Subscribe to TWO literary journals that you are not already subscribed to. At least one of those subscriptions MUST be a paid subscription. We will require proof of subscriptions only for the selected winner (no need to share your proof unless you win). Subscriptions must have been made on or after October 5.
2. Post the names of the journals in our comments section (by clicking Leave A Comment at the top of this article).
3. Stay tuned to our free e-publication Submit Write Now! to see if you won. All winners will be randomly selected. U.S. addresses only.
PLUS—here’s a bonus winner incentive.
We will give a voucher for a one-year subscription (to a literary journal of your choice) to one randomly selected writer who tweets, posts, or blogs about this Lit Mag Love contest. Tell us how you helped spread the word in our comments section! We’ll also be keeping an eye on our Twitter and Facebook profiles.
Here’s what you can tweet:
#supportlitmags Great contest! Support lit journals and enter to win free subscriptions! How cool is this? http://bit.ly/rgUNyH
Be sure to use the #hashtag if you tweet anything about this.
Or post this paragraph on your blog or Facebook page:
Support literary journals! Writer’s Relief is sponsoring a great contest. If you subscribe to two literary journals, you can be entered to win free subscriptions to two more journals of your choice! Plus, if you tweet or post this contest, you could be selected as the bonus winner. Literary journals play an important role in the lives of writers like me; I hope you’ll check out this contest. And even if you don’t enter, join me in supporting literary journals! Learn more: http://www.new.writersrelief.com/blog/2011/10/three-cheers-literary-journals/.
HINT: If you want, you can even list the literary journals that you love (or that have published your writing) to encourage subscriptions and submissions.

Cool. I’ve been published in many lit mags. I’ll post my new subscriptions later today after I research them!
This is great! Supporting literary magazines is so important in today’s economy. I’ll definitely look into it and post my choices later!
What a nice idea =) I’ve always found your articles helpful, but it’s even better to see a company practice what they preach!
I’m subscribing to the Indiana Review and the Missouri Review this month. Thanks for bringing awareness to this issue!
Okay. I subscrive to The Literary Review and Rattle.
Also, I posted this on Facebook!
I am going to subscribe when I get home from work this afternoon to Ploughshares and Black Warrior Review. I would love to get my work published in these magazines. So thanks for this contest! It’s a good nudge to make me start reading them. (Becuase reading them will help me understand what they’re publishing and what they like).
I already subscribe to Diverse Voices Quarterly and TLR.
BTW — here’s a tip for subscriptions. Sometimes when you enter a contest at a literary journal, the contest fee covers the cost of a year’s subscription. So it’s a good deal. The magazine gets subscribers and entrants get a new journal and also to be entered in a contest!
I’m planning on renewing my subscription to Creative Nonfiction and The First Line.
What an awesome contest idea!
I love lit mags! They are an important venue for writers and poets and have been some of the most supportive entities for us. Among my favs: Hawaii Pacific Review, Ploughshares, Gulf Coast Review. So many more!
Thanks for all the Ploughshares love! To make it easier for anyone who wants to subscribe, here’s a discount code: use DF11sm at checkout for $5 off a 1-year subscription at pshares.org/special
Best,
Andrea Martucci
Managing Editor

I just subscribed to Agni and the Missouri Review. Now I’m posting on my blog, which I’ll share on facebook.
Excellent idea! I just subscribed to Ploughshares and The Threepenny Review.

Conjunctions & NOON
Molly: YAY (and folks, check out http://thelitpub.com)!
Okay, I like the encouragement and support this contest provides to both writers and literary journals. Although I don’t use Facebook for “publicity” purposes — some of my writing friendships are currently in question because that is ALL they do — I did in fact post your announcement. I’ll subscribe to a couple more journals, too; and post them later.
Hunger Mountain and Missouri Review
Thanks for all the encouragement. I look forward to everything I receive from you guys. You are definitely helping me to stay focused.
Posted this on my twitter (princesssudi), on my facebook main page, and my fan pages.
tweeted your comment
Hope to win 🙂

Inkwell at Manhattanville College is a fantastic magazine.
The Westchester Review is also a good magazine that publishes writers and poets in the area.
Crazyhorse and Sugar House Review.
Terrific idea. I’ve been meaning to subscribe to Agni Review and this got me to do it. I also added Post Road. Supporting literary magazines is like supporting local independent booksellers. They keep the writing community strong.
I just subscribed to Poet Lore and American Poetry Review. And I shared a link to the contest on FB!
I’ve even entered by subscribing to two new mags! Just put in for Albedo One and Monkeybicycle. You guys just suckered me into spending more time reading and less time writing, didn’t you? Clever.
Glimmer Train and Sewanee Review
Hey guys, this is such a great idea. Thank you for putting this into the world.
If you’re looking for something a little off the beaten path, yet still acclaimed and freakin’ awesome (and entirely independent!), check out Versal. We can’t afford to offer much in the way of a discount, but our prices are cheap for the hefty and beautiful, high production of a journal you get:
BTW, we’re also in the midst of our reading period for our 10th anniversary issue.
All best from Amsterdam,
Megan
Ploughshares and Missouri Review, plus shared on FB.

Great idea! I’ve been meaning to subscribe to a few more literary journals, so this was good incentive. I actually did three, I was so caught up in the fever: New England Review (loved the discount–but it was on my list anyway!), Crazyhorse, and 32 Poems
From the editor at The First Line:
“From now until Oct. 12, we will offer “Free to Friends” subscriptions. Buy or renew a one-year print subscription, and we’ll give a one-year print subscription to a friend or institution of your choice. They just have to mention that they saw this on Writer’s Relief.
Best,
David”
Just subscribed to Ploughshares, Creative Non Fiction, and Missouri Review!
Ampersand Review can throw down for this. One free year to the winner. And if you buy an Ampersand Review subscription between now and the close of the contest, we’ll give you an extra 6 months free.
AND if you buy an Ampersand Review subscription and win the contest, we’ll either give you another year free OR buy you a subscription to the litmag of your choice (within reason).
Physically attractive and generous beyond reason,
