It’s our favorite time of the cycle here at Writer’s Relief! Review Board time!
Today is when we meet to review the submissions that are sent to our office (we’re reading poetry, stories, essays, and books). Talk about a fun job to have! We get to spend a couple days enjoying the many great stories and poems that are sent to us for consideration.
Of course, it’s not always easy to decide if a work is ready for our submission assistance. We do get some submissions that are “on the cusp,” at which point we spend a bit of time debating the work’s weaknesses and strengths. We try to take on writing that we feel is compelling enough to merit submission. But we all have different tastes!
We love discovering the work of a new writer who just has’t had the proper focus and strategy for making submissions; it’s exciting to know that we can be of help in getting a new career off the ground! We like working with veterans too—writers who want to write, rather than push paper and prepare their own submissions.
We spend hundreds of hours of staff time every month researching markets for creative writing. We don’t want all of this research going to waste. We’re looking to make good matches—kinda like a dating service for creative writers. Last week, one of our clients signed with a great New York agency—you bet we were celebrating here! We love to see our writers succeed.
If you want our Review Board to consider your writing, go ahead and send your work. But don’t wait! Today is the last day.
