Writer Elizabeth Gilbert, best known for her memoir Eat, Pray, Love, recently did an interview in which she talked about life, writing, and creativity—and what she had to say might surprise you. Here are her thoughts on writing for a living:

“I also advise against the goal of having your artistic work support your life, financially. Of course this is the dream of dreams—to make a living by your art—but it is a rare thing, when that works out.”
