Please join us in congratulating our Featured Client, poet and essayist Chanel Brenner! Chanel’s poetry is uniquely fluid and filled with unexpected, well-calculated metaphors that bring emotions to life. Likewise, her prose has a poetic sensibility that immediately draws the reader into her world. Her work deals with the human condition by looking at relationships between family members, grief, and other powerful experiences to which most readers can relate. Chanel’s work has appeared in Foliate Oak, Forge, and Sanskrit, among others. Read on to learn more about her writing process and her experience with Writer’s Relief. (Click to watch her video.)

In Chanel Brenner’s Own Words

Before finding Writer’s Relief, I was overwhelmed with the process and time needed to submit my work. Since I started working with Writer’s Relief a year ago, I’ve had sixteen poems accepted for publication. I’m thrilled with what they’ve helped me accomplish. I have a four-year-old son, and there just isn’t enough time in the day to write, let alone submit. I’m so grateful for their service.

About Chanel Brenner

Chanel Brenner is a writer living in Los Angeles with her husband and their four-year-old son. She is the winner of the First Annual Write Place At the Write Time poetry contest, judged by Ellen Bass, for her poem, “July 28th.” Her work has been published in Cultural Weekly, Foliate Oak, Forge, Memoirs Ink, Sanskrit, The Coachella Review, The Poetry Juice Bar, and The Write Place At the Write Time. She studies with the poet Jack Grapes and is a member of his L.A. Poets & Writers Collective. She has written a collection of poems and essays about the death of her six-year-old son, Riley, called The Christmas Boy Will Not Disappear. It was written during the first two years of grief. Her hope is that her writing will help others heal and realize that they are not alone in their pain.
