An international team of linguists working with Merriam-Webster found that words derived from the classical languages give spelling bee contestants the most difficulty. Many scientific, medical, and legal terms have roots in Greek and Latin languages. In this article from CNN.com, Writer’s Relief discovered some of the hardest-to-spell words in the English language:

Bondieuserie

Bourrée

Clafouti

Bewusstseinslage

Drahthaar

Hallenkirche

Cipollino

Check out this list to see more. How many can you spell?
