Books We Meant To Read This Year (But Didn’t) | Writer’s Relief

As 2017 draws to a close, Writer’s Relief asks: Twelve months ago, did you make a list of all the books you were going to read this year? How did you do?

Maybe you were able to complete some of your planned reading—but there was one book you really wanted to read that’s still lingering on the bookshelf. We asked our staff which books they intended to read this year, but didn’t. Thankfully, there’s always next year, so join us in putting these great books on the To Be Read list for 2018:

The Martian by Andy Weir

Parallel Worlds by Michio Kaku

The Burning Girl by Claire Messud

A Boy’s Own Story by Edmund White

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert

Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

Replica by Lauren Oliver

Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann

Running on Red Dog Road by Drema Hall Berkheimer

Ellen Browning Scripps: New Money and American Philanthropy by Molly McClain

A Legacy of Spies by John Le Carré

August Snow by Stephen Mack Jones

Question: Which book did you mean to read in 2017, but never got around to?

  1. The Underground Railroad is the name given to the specially appointed system of activists who assisted slaves in nineteenth century America with escaping estates and achieve free an area. The virtuoso of this novel is to imagine that it was a genuine railroad, in shrouded burrows. As the prepare stops at different states, the peruser is given a Swiftian voyage through “the genuine face of America”.
